How do I register? :
Every Tongan upon attaining the age of 21 years shall, unless disqualified under clause 64 of the constitution apply to the Supervisor to be entered on the roll for the constituency in which he has been resident for the period of 3 months before his application for registration.
(a) Who can register? :
You must be :
** A Tongan citizen and NOT a noble;
** At least 21 years of age; and
** Not insane or imbecile;
** Not hold a criminal record with a prison sentence of 2 years or more.
(b) What must I bring? :
You need to register in person. To ensure that we register your details accurately please bring along one of the following supporting documents :
** Birth Certificate ;or
** Passport;or
** Driver’s License.
(c) What happens when I register? :
** You need to go to the TEC office or if during registration times you will need to to go to your assigned registration centres in your constituencies.00 fili1
** Fill in the registration forms
** Have your photo taken
** Sign your registration form
** Leave with your barcoded sticker containing your voter registration number.
(d) When can I register? :
Voter Registration is an on-going event and anyone who is qualified to vote can register at the Office of the Electoral Commission in Nuku’alofa or at the Governor’s Office in Vava’u and Ha’apai or at the Offices of the Government Representatives in ‘Eua, Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou. The registration continues until it is closed fourteen (14) days prior to the date of the Election.
(e) When do I have to re-register? :
Following the 2010 Elections, all registered voters will only need to re-register if :
** They have changed their home address therefore, moving to another village in another consitutency; or
** The TEC have informed you that your voting constituency or electoral district has changed.
(f) How do I know if I’m registered? :
You can contact the main office of the Tonga Electoral Commission to check if you are a registered voter.
Where do I vote? :
Please remember that you must be a registered voter in Tonga in order to vote. To confirm that your name is on the voters’ roll and to find out your electoral voting constituency please contact the Tonga Electoral Office.
General Elections :
For general elections you need to vote at the assigned polling station for your registered constituency. However, if you are outside of your electoral district (Tongatapu, Vava’u, Ha’apai, ‘Eua and the Niuas)on Election Day you may vote at another polling station designated by the TEC.
By-Elections :
You need to vote in the polling station assigned to your registered constituency.
