UK Election Apply for Free Voter ID

You can use this service to:
** get on the electoral register so you can vote in elections or referendums
** get on or off the open register
** update your name, address or nationality by registering again with your new details (if you live in the UK)
You can no longer register to vote in the General Election on 4 July 2024.

Who can Register for Free Voter ID?

If you live in England and Northern Ireland :
** You must be aged 16 or over.
** You can register to vote if you’re a British citizen or an Irish citizen.
** You can also register if you have permission to enter or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man – or you do not need permission – and you’re a:
i. Commonwealth citizen
ii. citizen of Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal or Spain
iii. citizen of another EU country, if you have had permission to enter or stay – or not needed permission – since 31 December 2020, and this has continued without a break

If you live in Scotland :
** You must be aged 14 or over.
** You can register to vote if you’re a British citizen or an Irish citizen.
** You can also register if you have permission to enter or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man, or you do not need permission.

If you live in Wales :
** You must be aged 14 or over.
** You can register to vote if you’re a British citizen, Irish citizen or a citizen of an EU country.
** You can also register if you have permission to enter or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man, or you do not need permission.

How to Apply for Voter Authority Certificate?

Apply online :
Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate on gov.uk. https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

You only need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate if:
** you do not have accepted photo ID
** you no longer look like the photo on your ID
** the name on your photo ID is different to your name on the electoral register

Apply by post :
** Apply by filling out a paper application form and sending it to your local council.
** You can contact your local council to request a form or you can download a form (Opens in new window).
** You may also be able to apply in person at your local council.
** If you need any help applying for a Voter Authority Certificate, contact your local council. You can also call our helpline on 0800 328 0280 if you have any questions.

Information you will need to provide :
** When applying for a Voter Authority Certificate, you will need to provide your:
name
address
date of birth
National Insurance number
** You should apply using the same name that you used to register to vote.
** You will not need to provide your gender, and your certificate will not have a gender marker.

What is the Deadline of Voter Authority Certificate?

The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate to vote in the Parliamentary general election on Thursday 4 July is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
