Elections Egypt Presidential Election

The Presidential Elections of 2018 shall be held according to the attached timeline
This Decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and in Al-Ahram and Al- Akhbar newspapers and the competent authorities shall be responsible for its execution.

Election Time Table

08/01/2018 : Calling voters and announcing the procedural schedule and electoral timeline.

31/01/2018 : Announcing and publishing the preliminary list of the names of candidates and the numbers of supporters and endorsers of each candidate in Al-Ahram and Al-Akhbar newspapers

05/02/2018 : Examining the candidacy applications and deciding on the objections
06/02/2018 : Notifying the rejected candidates of the decision and the reason for rejection.
09/02/2018 : Deciding on complaints and notifying of the decisions

22/02/2018 : The deadline for withdrawing candidacy applications and for candidates to select symbols according to the chronological order of submitting the candidacy applications.

24/02/2018 : Announcing the final list of the candidates’ names and symbols and publishing the list in the Official Gazette, and Al-Ahram and Al- Akhbar newspapers.

16/03/2018, 17/03/2018 & 18/03/2018: Out-of-country voting (from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M., according to the local time of each country)
26/03/2018, 27/03/2018 & 28/03/2018 : In-country voting (from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. local time)

29/03/2018 : End of the sorting (counting) process and sending the results forms to the general committees and the decisions of the general committees regarding all the matters of the polling process

30/03/2018 : The NEA receives appeals against the decisions of the general committees

18/04/2018 : Halting the electoral campaign and beginning the first campaign silence period from 12 noon. on the day preceding the election day, according to the local time of each country

23/04/2018 : Halting the electoral campaign and beginning the second campaign silence period from 12 noon on the day preceding election day.

27/04/2018 : End of the sorting (counting) process and sending the results forms to the general committees and the decisions of the general committees regarding all the matters of the polling process

01/05/2018 : Announcing and publishing the final election result in the Official Gazette

Rules and Procedures

** Each citizen registered on the voter database may support an applicant for the position of the President of the Republic by visiting a notary office at the Notarization Authority using the form prepared for such purpose.

** A citizen may neither support one applicant more than once, nor endorse more than one applicant.
** One form may not include support from more than one citizen.

** The notary should verify the identity of the citizen based on the data on the national identification card or the passport where the number of the national identification card is stated.

** No other documents shall be taken into consideration.

** The supporter’s name, residence, governorate and national identification number shall be written down, as well as the name of the applicant whom the supporter mentions.

** The citizen shall sign the form in handwriting or with the thumb fingerprint.

** The notary shall inform the supporter, before starting the notarization process, of the penalty for supporting an applicant more than once or supporting more than one applicant.

** Support by proxy shall not be accepted.
** The support form shall be prepared in two copies to be signed by the supporter, with one copy handed to the supporter and the other kept at the notary.
** The support documented on any other form shall not be taken into consideration.
** The supporter’s signature shall be certified without any fees.
** For Egyptians abroad who wish to support an applicant, the same rules shall apply and their signatures shall be certified by the diplomatic and consular missions.
