The timetable for the Mt Roskill by-election is as follows:
Monday 10 October :
Mt Roskill electorate by-election dates formally announced

Wednesday 2 November :
** Writ Day
** Governor General issues writ directing the Electoral Commission to hold the Mt Roskill by-election.
** Electoral Rolls close for printing.
** Voters enrolled after this date cast a special declaration vote.
Thursday 3 November :
Nominations open for candidates in the Mt Roskill by-election
Tuesday 8 November Noon Deadline :
Nominations close for candidates in the Mt Roskill by-election
Tuesday 8 November 4.00pm target :
** Mt Roskill by-election candidates announced by the Electoral Commission.
** Voting place and advance voting place details available.
** Ballot paper printing starts.
Wednesday 16 November :
Overseas voting starts
Monday 21 November :
Advance voting starts
Monday 21 November :
Easyvote packs start arriving with voters
Friday 2 December :
Last day to enrol
Friday 2 December :
All political advertising ceases and election signs taken down by midnight

Voting places open from 9.00am to 7.00pm
Saturday 3 December :
Preliminary Results progressively available from 7pm on electionresults.govt.nz.
Targets for release are:
by 7.30pm all advance vote results
by 9.00pm results from 50% of voting places
by 10.00pm results from 100% of voting places.
These are targets not guarantees.

Official Results declared (including special declaration and overseas votes)
Monday 19 December :
Deadline for applications for judicial recount

Return of Writ by Electoral Commission naming successful candidate (presuming no recount)

Get ready for Mt Roskill by-election :
** Enrol, check or update your details now to make sure you’re ready for the Mt Roskill by-election.
** Only those who are enrolled in the Mt Roskill general electorate before election day can vote in the by-election.
To enrol and vote in the Mt Roskill by-election, you must:
** have lived within the Mt Roskill electorate for more than one month
** be 18 years of age or older, and
** have lived in New Zealand for more than one year continuously at some time in your life, and
** be a New Zealand citizen, or
** be a permanent resident of New Zealand.
** Enrol by Wednesday 2 November and an EasyVote information pack will be sent to you in the mail from the start of advance voting.
** The pack includes your personal EasyVote card and all the information you need to vote. If you enrol later, you can still vote, but you won’t get an EasyVote card.
** You can enrol right up until the Friday before election day, but not on election day itself.
