There are currently Eighteen registered political parties in The Gambia. To become a registered political party, organisations must fulfill the guidelines established under section 105 of the Elections Act and complete an Application form.

How to Register a Political Party in Gambia?
Guidelines For Organisations Seeking Registration As Political Parties Under Section 105 Of The Elections Act
** The application for registration is to be made on the prescribed Application Form obtainable from the Office of the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission on Bertil Harding Highway, Kanifing Layout, Kanifing Municipality.
** The application must be accompanied by a declaration signed by not less than Ten thousand registered voters, at least 1000 voters from each of the 7 Administrative Areas, in the forms provided by the Commission.
** The prescribed registration fee of One million Dalasi (D1,000000.00) should be paid at the time of submitting the application.
** The Constitution of the party must be enclosed with the application.
** The principal objective of the party should be to participate in the elections and its internal organization should conform to democratic principles.
** The party should have a national character and should not be formed on any sectional, religious, ethnic or regional basis.
** The aims and objectives of the party should not be inconsistent with the Constitution and other laws of the country.
** The name, emblem, colour, motto or symbol of the party should have no ethnic, religious or regional connotation.
** Copy of the IEC’s Code on Election Campaign Ethics is provided with the Application Form.
** All the political party executives are resident in The Gambia;
** The political party has a secretariat in each administrative region of The Gambia.
** A written undertaken that the political party shall submit it’s yearly audited accounts to the commission; and
** The constitution of the political party requires it to hold a biennial congress.
