Presidential Election :
Election Date : 26th June, 2017. Voting for 6th Presidential election of Mongolia has started today nationwide at 7.00 am and will continue until 10 p.m by local time.
Before the noon, the candidates for the President of Mongolia, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, the Chairman of the State Great Khural casted their votes at their related election stations.
The General Election Committee gives information on voting process for every four hours, and the voters are taking part actively in polling, highlighted the observers.
This time, over 300 observers appointed from the OSCE are monitoring the Presidential election of Mongolia. The political parties with parliament seats named their candidates to the Presidential election.
Thus, the current President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj from the Ruling Democratic Party, a member of the State Great Khural B.Bat-Erdene from MPP and the Health Minister N.Udval from MPRP are competing. Ts. Elbegdorj nominated for the second time, whereas B.Bat-Erdene and N.Udval are competing for the first time.
In this election, 856.190 voters are eligible to cast their votes. The specialties of this election are in that the automatic voting system is used for the first time and Mongolian citizens abroad casted their votes for the Presidential election in advance for the first time.
Over 100.000 citizens of Mongolia are living and working overseas, of which more 4000 took part in the 2013 Presidential election. As well, the woman-candidate for the Presidential election competes for the first time in the history of the country.
The first President of Mongolia was elected in 1992 and since 1993 Mongolians have been electing the President of the country by the general direct suffrage.
