Local Council Election Result :
The 2017 local council elections were conducted in 145 localities across the West Bank where lists competed for 1552 total council seats.

The preliminary results came as follows :
1. Lists results according to their partisan affiliation : Independent lists obtained 65% of contested seats, Fatah lists obtained 27.6%, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine obtained 2.77%, lists formed of coalition of parties obtained 2.77%, the Palestinian National Initiative lists obtained 0.58%, the Palestinian Democratic Union obtained 0.45%, the Democratic Coalition obtained 0.32%, the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front obtained 0.26%, the Palestinian People Party obtained 0.19% of the total number of seats.
According to gender : winning female candidates formed 19.8% of the total winning candidates whereas, the percentage of winning male candidates reached 80.2%.
According to age group : winning candidates from the age group of 25-35 formed 16.5% of the total number of winning candidates.
Winning candidates from the age group of 36-45 formed 25%. Winning candidates from the age group of 46-55 formed 33.8% and winning candidates above the age of 55 formed 24.7%.
As for the 181 localities which won by acclamation a total of 1683 council seats, the results came as follows :
According to lists party affiliation : Independent lists won 11.6% of seats, Fatah lists won 74.9%, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine won 0.65%, Coalition of parties lists won 12.9% of the total council seats.
According to gender : winning female candidates formed 22.4% of the total number of winning candidates, whereas the percentage of winning male candidates reached 77.6%.
According to age group : winning candidates from the age group of 25-35 formed 25.1% of the total number of winning candidates.
Winning candidates from the age group of 36-45 formed 28.7%. Winning candidates from the age group of 46-55 formed 29.4% and winning candidates above the age of 55 formed 16.8%.
About Us :
The Central Elections Commission(CEC) was established in October 2002 under General Elections Law of 1995.
The elections Law issued on August 2005 stressed that the CEC is “ the supreme body that undertakes the management, supervision, preparation and organization of elections and to take all necessary measures to ensure its integrity and freedom’’.
Article 22 of the said law considers the CEC as a permanent body with corporate personality and administrative and financial independence.
The CEC consists of a board of nine members ‘Commissioners’, including the President and the Secretary-General, who are appointed by a presidential decree by the President of the Palestinian National Authority (Article 19 of the Electoral Law) .
